Yeah it is worth it, they make a huge difference. The stats help you go first faster if the other team's refinement stats are lower than yours. They also help with determining how much critical damage is done to the enemy team.

Refining equipment is more important than upgrading them with coins on the first tab. Refining them upgrades stats to allow your team to eventually go first in fights, which can be crucial during ranked and arena battles.

Just a little piece of information on this topic Having higher Initiative doesn't always mean you'll go first, higher initiative and placement of a character tells who goes first. For example If I put my main in second spot and I'm fighting someone who has their main in first spot but I have higher Initiative I'll go second because of the position I'm in.

Yeah depending on the position of the person casting the justu and the amount of initiative they have.
