you have to reach certain level to unlock the bottom part and another certain level for the top part.

You misunderstood him, he has them unlocked but other people can place their main in the bot & top line. Not just in the middle.

just slide your middle team up or down :)

Ranked Battle -> Adjust Lineup. On the left, you should see all 3 teams with the ninjas in them. They're labeled "Up", "Middle" and "Down". Click & Drag one of the teams to the other team to switch places.
