I think he might be one of those characters (like Hinata, Sasuke, etc.) that are good for all main.

Probably does well with earth main, cause every lineup does well with earth!

Actually Tendo has the same chases and some other similar passives as Hinata. So he works really well with any lineup that uses her. I myself am waiting for Tendo to replace Hinata in my current team. I use water main, and the lineup is as follows:
x-Guy-Suigetsu
x-Main-Hinata/Tendo
x-x-x
skills are: 2-2-3-2-2 summon is 8span bird. With Tendo it'd have 2 interupters and 4 combo starters. 6combos with every nuke, and a 7combo with Suigetsu's mystery. Accu each round. this would be pretty much unstopable. If you have Tendo, I'd recommend placing Guy move1 and Suigetsu move3. You'd still have 2 interruptions 2nd round. If you don't have 8span, then crow or chameleon will work just as well.
Crow better, because you can substitute Guy's chase if he's taken out. (the enemy usually think he's a critical player and go for him first.)
