Susanoo does not count. Logically in naruto world, he is only a pure chakra, activated only with sharingan, I mean, why nobody complains about Itachi not having sword, since his Susanoo clearly uses it too? oh right, he is mostly immune as well. It wouldn't make sense for a sword buff to apply, since it's a susanoo that has it, and not Madara, and it's pure chakra, technically. And fan is not a sword, where comparing to hammer and axe...well...it's a * axe, the hammer part is not counting towards the sword ability, it's the axe that gives it, and he even is considered as one of seven swords men for a reason, because of the axe, not the hammer, hammer is addition to it, it makes it a unique weapon.

Gunbai - "It is a wide fan with tomoe on it and has a long handle with bandages wrapped around the base, as well as having a long chain attached to it. In the past, when Madara used it, it was brown with a black border, with red tomoe, and a chain was attached to the handle that appears to have been connected to his kama"

In the past it was, meaning that this version of Madara doesn't use it, which is the reincarnated 4th GNW version and not the original version of Senju vs Uchiha war. There is no solid evidence that the fan he uses in 4th GNW, has the scythe / kama at the end attached, he is only seen with the fan, but without chains, or chains without kama at the end. When Obito pretended to be Madara, he had the fan as well at latter stage when mask turned white with rinnegan look, but without any evidence of having kama as well, just chains running from his sleeves, but that's it.

So he has no sword type weapon, you just have to deal with not being able to make him immune with lightning main, or buffing him with sword buffs.

Personally, I never even had a thought about him having a sword in the first place, since I have never seen him welding one, so this is kind of weird to read about when you wish him having a sword when he never had one, except back in Senju-Uchiha war.

  • This is merely a conversation because obviously tags wont be changed. But i agree with some parts, sword tag has some controversy around it, for example, all forms of Orochimaru are classified as sword user except konoha traitor, sannin war uses sword in his myst but akatsuki and konoha traitor versions never show any sword in any annimation. As for madara, i can see that they dont consider susanoo swords as enough to make the ninja a sword user but if this version is founder of konoha and not reanimated one, we saw in the anime he used a scythe, and if hidan is a sword user i guess madara should be too. But not by using a fan cuz that would mean tenten gnw and kinkaku were sword users too. And also asuma`s weapon is considered a sword? His normal version has kunai like weapon, Wind blade version has chakra shaped like a blade so i guess suanoo`s sword should be a sword too. As for jinin, he is one of the 7 swordman so i guess hammer or not, he should be a sword user. Kimimaru is kinda weird tho, his so called sword is made of bone...

Asuma is considered because he wields knifes, plus, he infuses them with his chakra, thus extending them and making them sword like. Regular versions has the same, but not at larger scale, but a knife is basically a small sword. Bare in mind, kunai is not the same as knife, and Asuma uses knifes. Kunais in reality are different from what are shown in the game. Research it.

"A kunai( kunai) is a Japanese tool originally meant for farming in the Tensho Era of Japan (1573–1592).

The two widely recognized variations of the kunai are hand shovel us for turning up crops short kunai (小苦無 shō-kunai) and the big kunai (大苦無 dai-kunai).

Although a basic tool, in the hands of a martial arts expert, the kunai could be used as a multi-functional weapon, popular before the wide spread of firearms. The kunai is commonly associated with the ninja, who used it to gouge holes in walls. By attaching a rope to the ring, the user could easily climb walls or trees, which required great accuracy when thrown. The kunai blade was unsharpened, soft iron, and was used for digging, prying, and smashing wood, plaster, and the like—which would have likely destroyed a tool which was sharpened or heat-treated. Many popular manga and ninjutsu characters use kunai as both their primary and secondary weapons."

"As with ninjutsu, the exaggeration persistent in ninja myths played a large role in creating the popular culture image of kunai. In fictional depictions of ninjas, the kunai is commonly portrayed as a steel knife that is used for stabbing or particularly throwing"

Anyway, I already explained other parts to why this and that is considered as a sword user, and why others not, and why Jinin is considered a sword user, since he does not uses hammer as only weapon...clearly.
