Best way to figure things out is test it on yourself! Turn lights off in room, leave door open with source of bright light and get a candle- and observe how it all look like this. Or go throu photos for refferences~ Like that:

Nah, it's really good, don't be soo harsh on yourself! One thing-I think that candle would have a shadow ring around it's base- like on pic, but thinnier cause source of light, aka flame is bit higher
