    The game is not lying to you but that Experience from Synthesizing your Magatamas is for your Magatama. The amount equivalent to the magatamas you used to upgrade your equipped magatama is the experience points that you are getting, not for your Main Character's Experience for Leveling Up. I hope you understand. Thank you.

yea, totally misunderstood it, thought i could increase my level by upgrading and de-upgrading magatamas, spent 30mins doing it and my character exp didn't change, now i found out the magatamas had the exp
