Kakuzu st no contest.

The fights I get into between the two, kakuzu is harder to deal with even at a big power gap. Kushina hits hard, but I've seen spacetime fights where a much lower powered kakuzu beats her.

I thought a team like Shikamaru Chuunin BT, Kushina BT and Edo itachi would be able to counter Kakuzu in a similar power fight

it can, but you need to get fire and wind elemental resistance on your tools from ti, it helps a lot resisting the kakuzu blasts

Fun fact, i saw the opposite. Lower powered kushina beats kakuzu :D

Its good to point out the the advantages both have.

Kakuzu has super armour and charka scaling

Kushina has immunity and on hit scaling

In theroy it would require Kushina to take damage 25 times to reach the buff level of Kakuzu at 100 charka. As both are all rounders the stronger in a 1v1 is Kakuzu since he can be front loaded. Kushina has better sustain but lacks the ability to actually harm Kakuzu early on. Kakuzu biggest advantage is his mystery can have 0 CD and 2 standard attacks per round. Imagine if Itachi susanoo had 2 standard attacks by default.

I'd like to see that in a video. I have shikamaru chunnin almost full broke but I don't have kushina bt and edo itachi. I would probably work on getting itachi, but I still don't know about kushina tbh.

Meanwhile, what I've been using is shira (p1), kisame god mode (p2) earth main and asuma wb. I use kisame shark mode because when shira combo's, kisame can steal chakra which buys me a lot of time lol. I may need to swap asuma wb for kurenai because some kakuzu users take edo itachi with them. Anyway, that lineup keeps me from losing to kakuzu users all the time. I still lose here and there, but not all the time now.

As how the game is at this moment (position 1 stacking) is better to go after that Kakuzu. In future (one or two years from now) when people will get their position 2 close to the level of ones maybe Edo Yagura + Kushina are a better bet.
